In planning a new home, you'll make many decisions, ranging from the exterior cladding to the furnishings, lighting and flooring. Signature Homes makes the whole process easy and stress-free. Building a new home creates an opportunity for you to have the design, appearance and layout that best suits your particular lifestyle.
As well as the look, however, you also need to consider the materials you are using to ensure your new home will stand the test of time. This home, adapted from the Villa Compana in Signature's Tuscany Collection, uses materials and systems from James Hardie. The four bedroom, two-storey house has a Tuscan-style Monotek plastered exterior and a Terracotta tiled roof. Courtyards opening off the living rooms create a flow between indoor and outdoor living, and these areas are complimented by the Italianate landscaping.
Plaster systems like Harditex, Monotek and Hardibacker lend themselves to a variety of finishes and colours, as well as allowing your home to incorporate diverse architectural features. These non-combustible systems help protect your home from problems such as rot, water, warping and impact. In fact, all of James Hardie's systems are rigorously tested in real life environments to ensure they exceed NZ Building Code standards.
Signature Homes selected James Hardie's Monotek cladding system because it has been specifically designed to counteract the vagaries of the New Zealand climate, such as the high rainfall and temperature range. This stable, water-resistant board offers long-lasting good looks, water-tightness and durability.
Inside, the Signature Homes team has used a generous stud height in the living areas to ensure they feel spacious and open. Alcoves inset into the walls have been backlit, creating areas where the owners can display pieces of art. The home has both casual and formal living areas and a formal dining room. These all flow out onto paved courtyard areas. There is also a study and a double garage. In the master bedroom, an alcove behind the bed and a vaulted ceiling add to a feeling of grandeur. In the ensuite there are two handbasins for extra convenience. The home also features underfloor heating, a central vacuuming system and a security system - which are all available as options.
Signature Homes' Villa Compana is one of seven standard Tuscany Collection plans. These plans can all be altered to suit your personal requirements and tastes. Signature are also happy to work with your architect or designer to ensure your new home is exactly as you want it to be. "We believe that the homeowner's involvement should continue throughout the process, so the finished result is no surprise", says Signature Homes Director Gavin Hunt.
Signature Homes was established in 1983 and therefore has vast experience when it comes to building homes in New Zealand conditions. "But our success is based on developing strong partnerships with our clients. We have a network of fully trained people nationwide, and you can deal with a local franchise partner in your own community," Gavin says.
