The first thing to strike you as you near this impressive single level dwelling, is the way the natural Hinuera stone and pine weatherboard cladding seem to fit so well with the surrounding environment.
The home achieves this despite the fact that the exterior has some fairly angular modern architectural features, the most prominent of these being a canopy and a substantial facing, which protect an outdoor fireplace and encircle much of the living area. This is balanced on the opposite side of the home with a canopy/facing protecting the entrance.
The feel-good factor created by this winning contrast between traditional materials and modern design may well be one of the reasons the Signature Homes Waikato franchise has won so many Master Builder Awards in recent years.
Sitting on a 5000 square metre lifestyle block, this beautifully appointed home features five bedrooms, outstanding indoor/outdoor living, a home theatre and some of the latest fixtures and fittings available.
One of the interesting features inside the home is the retro Mozaic Splashback in the kitchen. This time around however, the small brown ceramic tiles of the 1970s have been alternated with tiles which have a luminescent coating, creating a shimmering effect that really catches your eye. Situated nearby is a Butler's Pantry, which can be hidden by an elegant pair of glass cavity sliders.
The Butler's Pantry has very much come back into vogue in recent years, as people who love entertaining at home have recognised the advantage in being able to keep any clutter created while preparing meals out of the sight of friends and family.
The floorplan of the home - which has three seperate 'wings' - has been designed and positioned to catch natural light and warmth in every part of the home throughout the day and this, along with the inclusion of double-glazed windows and upgraded insulation, has significantly reduced the home's carbon footprint and future power consumption.
