Signature Homes has a new show home for prospective clients to look at – one that's a little different from the rest. It has been built with all the expertise one expects from Signature Homes, but has a rural feel that immediately sets it apart from the urban houses normally used for show purposes.
Situated at 758 Rangitikei Line, this three-bedroom-plus-study home represents the latest in modern design, and displays all the skills and fashion sense this company is renowned for. As you approach the property, via a sweeping driveway, you see a low profile, single-storey house in a rural setting. It's a home that is distinguished by its sophistication, yet brought down to earth by the natural materials used to connect it with its surroundings. Inside, you find a family dwelling in which the residents can move effortlessly between living areas, enjoying all the elements of a design that is both elegant and convenient.
The main living area has a large schist-stone fireplace as a central feature. This is an echo of the schist used on the exterior of many Signature Homes, and works beautifully. The strength of the stone is tempered by the soft, neutral colours from Wattyl on the walls, and the supple carpet.
Another interesting feature, and one that comes at no extra cost, is the recessed ceiling in each of the family areas. Such ceilings add to a room's appearance of height, and create another dimension that is often missing in modern homes.
A warm, homely touch is provided by floorboards in both the kitchen and dining areas. These are also used in the entranceway, to add to the rural feel of the house. The kitchen comes with Fisher and Paykel appliances, and has a parlour pantry, complete with jack points, where some of the appliances can be kept, if you don't want them to clutter the main kitchen area.
This is also a great spot to prepare light breakfasts or lunches, so that the mess stays out of sight. While working in the kitchen, you will find that all cupboards close with the merest touch of a finger. Another feature here is the island bench – a great place to entertain guests while preparing a meal.
Behind you is a large gas hob that has more than enough burners to cook everything at once, so that some dishes aren't left behind or forgotten. If the weather is warm and you decide to serve the meal outside, pull back the large sliding doors in the dining area and step out on to the deck that wraps around the house to the living room.
All the bedrooms are spacious and have generous double wardrobes. The main bedroom also has a private patio, a large walk-in wardrobe, and a stunning en-suite bathroom with a fully tiled shower and large dark oak veneer vanity.
The main bathroom has a large acrylic shower and a deep bath with a tiled surround and a dark oak vanity with ceramic basin and beautiful tapware. Throughout the house, there is plenty of storage space – something that will be appreciated by those whose clutter tends to get the better of them.
Surrounding the house is a low maintenance garden that makes the most of the rural location. There are young trees, which will offer shade in a few years' time, and plenty of grass for the children to romp on. A quirky board walk makes an interesting feature and is a great spot to stand and and survey the scene while you contemplate the prospect of taking possession of your very own Signature Homes dream home.
The show home opens on May 13 and will be open to the public from 1pm to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday
