Signature Homes' latest showhome opened its doors on the 15th August in New Plymouth. The Kawau is part of Signature's Pacific Collection, which features over 50 homes.
The 200 square metre show home, at 19 Links Drive, is a statement of style in a classic Cape Cod design, which blends perfectly into its coastal position. The three bedroom home attracts all-day sun, and has views of the adjacent golf course from the living areas and master bedroom.
This home boasts an attractive entrance foyer, with pillars inviting you into the living area. Of the many quality features in the house, the crisp, white, clean lines of the designer kitchen are of particular note. Cooking and even the washing up would be a pleasure in this large hub, with the choice of two sinks – enabling two to work freely in the kitchen.
Above one of the sinks is a bi-folding window, which folds back completely for uninterrupted views. Stainless steel Fisher and Paykel appliances and an American ash- lacquered breakfast bar with matching adjacent wall shelving top off the stylish kitchen. The kitchen anchors one end of a universal space incorporating, kitchen, living and dining.
Adjacent to the universal living space is a separate lounge, complete with an automated home sound and lighting system. While the entire house has a raised stud, giving a sense of extra space, the stud has been raised even higher in the centre of the ceiling in the lounge. This allows the placement of an impressive light-fitting. Behind a wide, bi-folding interior door is a home office space – perfect for keeping any office clutter hidden from view or for keeping an eye on the children's internet activity.
Up the hallway, lit partly by clever sun tunnels that let in natural light, are two double bedrooms leading to an extra-large master bedroom, complete with a stacker door giving access to an exposed aggregate patio. The master bedroom also has a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, which, along with the large main bathroom, is finished to a very high standard.
Situated on a pleasant section surrounded by rural vistas, the new Signature Homes Taranaki show home has proven to be a busy visiting place for potential homebuilders. With a wide street frontage, showing two sides of the home, it is easy to see why it holds so much appeal. Crafted largely from James Hardie Linea weatherboards, and with a neutral colour scheme, it is substantial, visually appealing and surprisingly affordable.
An exterior is of significant aesthetic value to any show home, as potential customers often simply drive past display houses, making a fast decision on whether or not they will view it more thoroughly. For this reason, the Signature Homes team invested many hours into the colour scheme and the external materials used to craft the house, to appeal to as many clients as possible.
One of the main visual components of the single storey dwelling is the roof, which was manufactured and supplied by MetalCraft Roofing. Made of corrugated Colorsteel, it works well with the home's design, and is very resilient in terms of long-term wearability. Made in New Zealand, Colorsteel roof profiles are manufactured to combat our specific weather patterns, and will stand up to extreme heat or cold. As the largest supplier of long run roofing in the country, MetalCraft Roofing were a standout choice for Signature Homes when it came to selecting the best company for the project.
The external joinery also adds depth to the home's profile, and was supplied by Seymour Aluminium (Taranaki)Ltd. They recommended and installed aluminium joinery from the Vantage range, which they felt was the product best suited to the local environment. To keep the house warm and add to its overall energy efficiency, double-glazed glass was also installed. The35mm platform is another important component of the joinery, providing maximum strength and stiffness, and creating an impressive foundation for the glazing. Miro hardware was colour-matched to suit.
As Signature Homes' building merchant of choice, Carters supplied all of the other exterior construction and cladding materials for the house. This included the frames and trusses required to form the home, manufactured predominantly from Laserframe, a premier framing product. Laserframe is dried in kilns and stress-graded using proven technology, which is a process designed to test every piece of Laserframe for stiffness and strength, ensuring the frames and trusses are fit for the purpose of new home construction. Carters delivered all items direct to the site, and worked closely with the building team to provide many other construction products and finishing materials for both the exterior and interior of the new home.
Inside, the house has been staged to appear as a real home, and customers often comment on the light wall tones and easy flow between spaces. main living area is open-plan with the kitchen, and incorporates the dining space, and light calmly filters inside all day through the many windows and doors. To ensure a constant temperature can be maintained throughout the entire house, and to keep healthy home principles in mind, a comprehensive Fujitsu ducted heat pump system was chosen.
Supplied and fitted by Taranaki Refrigeration Ltd – The Heat Pump Shop, the ducted system eliminates the need for heat pumps to be mounted on the wall, and instead provides heating and cooling through grills in the ceiling of each room. Despite providing heating and cooling for the entire home, the system is cost effective, just like running standard heat pumps. Fujitsu recommend this system for new homes, or for existing dwellings where there is an ample roof cavity to allow for installation.
Show homes are a wonderful tool for building companies to show case their work, and in the case of this new house, there is no doubt clients in the area love it.
