Choosing a Style for your New Home
|
There are countless styles when it comes to the look and feel of a home. Don't worry if you think you have an expensive taste, because most looks can be accommodated, even on smaller budgets. In the end it comes down to product choice, you just have to shop smarter and be creative. There is no wrong or right when it comes to design either, the most important thing is to be consistent. Interior Designers start by creating a moodboard where they collect pictures and product samples that give them inspiration. You can do the same; follow the 5 step guide on this page. Use the moodboard as a guide, and don't get sidetracked by gadgets. Be consistent with your choices.
5 STEPS TO CREATING YOUR OWN MOODBOARD
1. Once you have discovered what style suits you, cut photos from of magazines, collect fabric, wallpaper and paint samples.
2. Choose approximately 5 paint colours. Make sure you have enough contrast between them and that they work well together. Have at least one light basic colour for ceilings and walls, a second basic colour for doors and joinery. Then use the other 3 for feature colours.
3. Spread them all out on the table, there might be a couple of items that are the odd ones out and don't fit in with your chosen colour scheme, take these out.
4. Stick your images and samples onto an A3 size board. Make sure you write the names underneath the samples for further reference. You can use double-sided tape or glue.
5. The moodboard will be your guide when choosing products to finish or decorate your home with. Stick to the board colour scheme and you can't go wrong.
