After missing out on a piece of land, fate intervened and saw the owners of this new residence secure it after all.
As featured in Homestyle Magazine
When the owners of this stunning new abode were originally looking for a section to build upon, they happened upon the land they now call home. While they had a plan already drawn the developer of the subdivision declined it, deciding it did not suit the overall subdivision covenants, resulting in the homeowners missing out on their much-desired land. Months later, a chance drive-by led them to see a for sale sign back on the still vacant section, and in a case of second time lucky, this time they secured it.
In another stroke of fate, the couple ran into a building supervisor who had overseen the construction of their previous home."We thought he was fantastic, and we wanted to work with him again," say the homeowners. As the building supervisor for Signature Homes Waikato, he introduced them to the company, and before they knew it the build was underway.
"When we met the architectural designer at Signature Homes Waikato, we clicked with him too. We gave him our ideals, including a list of must haves, some things we would like, and things we didn't like. He then interpreted our thoughts, and he really understood what we wanted."
Top of their list of must haves was lots of sun to ensure the house would be warm, ample wall space to display their art, and a reasonable area to allow them to enjoy regular family gatherings. This led to a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen space, which has turned into the favourite room of the house. There is also a "snug" lounge, which they are looking forward to spending time in over winter, which has a cosy fire and warm ambience.
It is the kitchen's open style that appeals to the owners so much, as well as the materials used to create it. Designed and crafted by Kitchen FX, the kitchen has been made from hardwearing Arborform doors and panels. "In our last home, we had matt lacquer cabinetry and black granite, and it was impossible to keep clean," say the homeowners. This white, light looking kitchen appeals to them both visually as well as from a practical standpoint, with the Stoneology benchtop taking centre stage as an island and breakfast bar. It is here they read the paper over a cup of coffee, or enjoy relaxed breakfasts. To add extra luxury, the cabinetry is all fitted with soft close features. Kitchen FX also manufactured the vanity units for each bathroom, and the laundry cabinetry.
The exterior of the home is also a firm favourite of the homeowners, because they like the modern yet elegant style that has been created. A small swimming pool doubles as a water feature, and large paved areas work well with the contemporary external colour scheme.
The bricks also have a significant visual impact on the home, and were supplied by Monier Bricks & Roofing. To achieve this dramatic exterior look, random bricks were selected and corbelled out from the brick face, with white mortar used to create the monolithic appearance. The cavity brick system selected for this home is reliable and durable, and it allows for air flow, thereby helping to control any potential moisture from entering the house. Bricks are also an environmentally friendly choice of cladding, as they are a natural, recyclable product, and they are energy efficient, free of toxins and require virtually no maintenance to keep them looking good.
It is unlikely that the owners of this special home will ever want to move. They love the area, as well as their new neighbours, and of course they adore the residence of which they are so proud.
